During your exam, our hygienists carefully evaluate your gum health using a periodontal probe to measure the spaces between your teeth and gums.
- Healthy gums measure 3mm or less
- Deeper pockets trap bacteria and are harder to clean
- Deeper measurements may indicate gum disease

Common Signs of Gum Disease
You may have gum disease even if symptoms are mild. Warning signs can include:

Periodontal Treatment Options
Scaling and Root Planing (Deep Cleaning)
When gum pockets are deeper than 3mm, a deep cleaning may be recommended.
This treatment:

- Is performed with local anesthesia for comfort
Ultrasonic Cleaning

In some cases, localized antibiotics (such as Arestin) or other medications may be used to help control infection and support healing.
